13 more teachers attain National Board certification

Thirteen additional Chesterfield teachers recently achieved National Board certification, which is one of the highest credentials in education. That means that a total of 78 National Board Certified Teachers are working in Chesterfield County Public Schools.

The new National Board Certified Teachers from Chesterfield and other local school systems will be honored during a pinning ceremony at 5 p.m. Jan. 6 at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall of the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave. in Richmond.

Here are Chesterfield’s newest National Board Certified Teachers:

· Amber Bush, art teacher at Crenshaw Elementary

· Jennifer Grossnickle, school counselor at Ecoff Elementary

· Shannon Magne, third-grade teacher at Ecoff Elementary

· Susan Clarke, teacher for students with learning disabilities at Enon Elementary

· Melissa Samko, who teaches preschool children with disabilities at Enon Elementary

· Jennifer Andrews, second-grade teacher at Evergreen Elementary

· Lauryn Keller, fourth-grade teacher at Spring Run Elementary

· Missy Lanza, third-grade teacher at Bettie Weaver Elementary

· Serra De Arment, teacher for students with learning disabilities at Winterpock Elementary

· Matthew Fuquay, social studies teacher at Bailey Bridge Middle

· Lynne Gilbert, health and P.E. teacher at Elizabeth Davis Middle

· Debi Middleton, social studies teacher at Elizabeth Davis Middle

· Timothy Couillard, science teacher at James River High

According to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, Chesterfield County Public Schools ranks fifth among Virginia school divisions in the total number of National Board Certified Teachers. A voluntary assessment program designed to develop, recognize and retain accomplished teachers, National Board certification is achieved through a performance-based assessment that typically takes one to three years to complete.
